4 ways that stone tiles can make your home feel and look bigger

If you are in the middle of renovating your home or you are in the planning stages of your next project, you may be thinking of ways to make your space feel and look bigger than it actually is. There are many ways to help achieve this – add in extra mirrors or make use of light colours to open up a space for example. Have you thought about how your flooring can also add to the illusion? Here are some suggestions of how to make your space feel bigger by using flagstones or limestone tiles:

  • Make use of larger tiles

If you have a small space, making use of large tiles is a great idea. If you opt for larger tiles, you will have fewer grout lines which will make the floor look less ‘busy. Having fewer grout lines also means that your flooring will be easier to look after as tile is actually easier to maintain than grout. Using a similar coloured grout to your tiles will also help create a more seamless look throughout, adding to the illusion of a bigger space. Our stones such as The Clifton, Provence or Highland Grey are all available in 90cm x 90cm, making them a great choice for those wanting large tiles.

  • Make use of lighter colours

Choosing a light coloured floor will reflect the light around the room, automatically making the space feel larger and more spacious. We always suggest to customers to order free samples of our flooring before making an order - enabling you to see the stone in your own home, with your own eyes to ensure that it is the right colour in your setting. (Quite often stone can look different in different interior settings, depending on the amount of natural lighting vs. artificial lighting). The CliftonProvence, Old Rectory or Old Tuscany stone could be a great option as they all feature lighter, natural tones throughout the stone.

  • Use tiles that are a similar colour to your walls

Matching your tiles to your walls is a good idea if you are wanting to create a space that looks bigger. By using a colour with similar tones, you will be able to create a more seamless flow, helping the room appear bigger through a more harmonious look. • When laying your floor, lay in standard grid format

Laying your flooring in a standard grid format is the best way to ensure that you are making your space feel and look as big as possible.
