Get That Country Kitchen Look

For many of us urban living facilitates our need to access work and recreational opportunities but we still crave a home that feels cosier, is comforting and in some ways feels a little rural with a heart to the home - namely, the kitchen.

Achieving this doesn’t mean you have to up sticks and move to the country, these days you can create a feeling of history and warmth in modern homes as well as older properties. That country feeling is becoming more and more popular, possibly as a result of us spending more time at home and craving a sense of security and comfort that a country inspired kitchen brings.

In designing your kitchen you can achieve a lot with the kitchen units you choose whether that’s by using a national brand, ready to go kitchen or a more bespoke route like that of companies such as Minerva, Sustainable Kitchens or Mudd & Co. Good lighting, tiles and storage can also have a huge effect but of course, at Whitehall Flagstones, we are all about the flooring and the impact stone flooring can have on a room, creating everything from history, to practicality, to that wow factor!

Stone flooring can help you create:

  • A kitchen that looks original
  • A sense of history to a room
  • Character and texture
  • A space that is equipped to evolve with your home and style.

It can also create a floor that feels more tactile, with tumbled edges and texture, emphasising a more natural feel that is connected more to the country and gives a sense of history and enhances our wellbeing without us even noticing.

Farmhouse flagstones contribute well to a smart country kitchen feel when combined with classic simple kitchen units. The old, time worn appearance of this floor, with the tumbled edges and brushed surface, will seem like stepping into the past but will also compliment a modern kitchen, ringing the changes as your style changes and your home evolves.

If you are looking for more gentility then there are other options like the Provence with a soft tumbled edge and smooth textured surface, this limestone tile lends itself to a more smoother look than that of some of the more rustic flagstones.

Wood is also an option for the kitchen, our engineered oak comes in single width and also multi widths A mixture of sizes, creates a floor similar to what would have been laid 500 years ago. The sizes vary as the planks were cut through from the outer part of the trunk, to the inner/heart part of the trunk. This type of floor has no repetition in it because of the mixture of sizes, so will give a more classical or timeless look.
